Hobgoblin

Harry returns to school after being released from S.H.I.E.L.D protection, privetly confronting Peter and revealing that he was dating Mary Jane before the incident with his father. MJ's and Peter's relationship, already straining from the trauma Peter recieved from Nightmare, is further compromised when Harry tells MJ that Peter killed Norman. Frustrated, Spider-Man takes his anger out on some criminals, only to seriously injure one of them. A policeman, Jenne DeWolfe, offers herself as a potential ally to Spidey. In a flashback, Harry has been talking to one of Norman's old associates, Shaw, who urges Harry to honer his father's legacy and kill Peter. Harry calls Peter to his penthouse as Spider-Man, where it's revealed Shaw is a hallucination planted by Norman. Shaw triggeres an Oz transformation in Harry, turning him into the Hobgoblin.

Spider-Man and Hobgoblin fight, with Harry struggling to fight against his father's programming, and begs Peter to kill him. A team of S.H.I.E.L.D agents and Nick Fury arrive and take down Harry, despite Peter's protests. Fury continues to ignoring Spider-Man until he punches him, causing the agents to attack Spider-Man. Fury tells them to stand down, allows Spider-Man to leave, but notes that it might be time to de-power the hero. Returning to MJ, Peter breaks up with her, afriad that his life will get her killed. MJ tries going on a date with another guy, but realizes she loves Peter and plans to win him back.

Did You Know?

  • Mark Raxton, the student MJ goes on a date with in issue 78 is the step-brother of Liz Allen and the super-villain Molton Man in Earth 616. While this version of Raxton isn't related to Liz and doesn't possess his powers, the band he's in sings about Molton Man.
  • Mr. Shaw, the hallucination Harry experiences is Norman Osborn’s bodyguard who attempted to assassinate Peter in the first issues. This is not the real Shaw, and there are no other appearances of the character aside from the first issues
  • Norman’s lab features different designs for Green Goblin masks, which include the Ultimate, Classic, and Raimi Trilogy designs.
